Your Instagram bio is prime real estate.

It's the first thing people see when they land on your profile, so it needs to grab attention and quickly communicate who you are and what you offer.  A well-crafted bio can turn scrollers into followers and followers into clients.

Here are five essential elements to include:

1. Name, Location & Industry:

Don't make people play detective. Start with your name or business name (this varies if your business name is in your Instagram handle).

Then, clearly state your industry or niche.

For example: Jessica | DFW Wedding Photographer.

Even if you're a remote business, tagging a general location (like a city or region) helps people understand your target market and where you're based.

This also helps with local searches. Use the location tag feature for added visibility!

2. Who You Are:

Go beyond just your job title.

Give a glimpse into your personality or what makes you unique. Are you a "coffee-obsessed creative"? Do you "empower female entrepreneurs"?

A short, engaging phrase can add personality, make you more relatable, and bring like-minded people your way!

3. What You Do:

Clearly explain what you offer. Don't assume people will know.

Instead of just "Photographer," try something like "Capturing timeless moments for joyful couples."

Focus on the benefits you provide for your clients!

**Pro-tip - use Donald Miller's story brand guide to position your client as the hero, not yourself!

4. Who You Serve:

Let people know if they're in the right place.

Do you specialize in family portraits? Do you coach small business owners?

Being specific about your target audience helps attract the right followers and potential clients.

For example: "Serving stylish brides in the Dallas-Fort Worth area."

5. Call to Action:

Don't leave people wondering what to do next. Include a clear call to action.

This could be a link to your website, online store, booking page, or even a linktree.

Use phrases like "Book your free consultation," "Shop our latest collection," or "Learn more at [link]."

**Pro Tip- this one is a biggie, double check that your external links work AND that your website buttons work accordingly and list your accurate contact info.

Here's a bio example!

Jessica | DFW Wedding Photographer | Capturing timeless moments for joyful couples in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. | Coffee-obsessed creative with a passion for storytelling. | Serving stylish brides and grooms. | Book your dream wedding photography package today! [Linktree]

By incorporating these five elements, you can create an Instagram bio that is informative, engaging, and helps you connect with your ideal audience. So, take a look at your current bio and see where you can make improvements. A little effort can go a long way in making a fantastic first impression!
